A CHAMPION golfer is hoping that for once he lands all his shots in the bunker.
Durham Mount Oswald club champion and head greenkeeper Richie Hood is doing the Namibia Target Golf Challenge to help raise funds for two youngsters to go on a mercy mission.
Durham schoolboys Richard Potter and Anthony Kerry will go on an adventure break and humanitarian mission to Namibia next year, if they can raise £2,600 each.
On the morning of the Mount Oswald Open, Sunday, July 1, Mr Hood will spend an hour on the practice ground hitting as many golf balls as he can.
He will stand 100 metres away from a bunker about 20ft across and attempt to land 50 balls in the sand, in a sponsored effort to help the boys
Mr Hood, 34, from Seaham Harbour, has been at Mount Oswald for ten years, and for two of those has been club champion.
He said of Richard and Anthony: "They will bring prestige and credit to Durham. The city should be proud of them."
