THE pub chain behind a controversial new nightspot has confirmed more of its plans.
J D Wetherspoon's has been given permission to convert the post office on Queen's Road in Richmond - which will mean the counter service relocating to another site in the town centre.
Almost £1m will then be invested in the building, creating 25 ful-time and part-time jobs.
Planning conditions mean there will be no live entertainment, karoake, or pool tables; the new pub's beer garden will also have to close at 9pm to limit disturbance.
The project prompted resistance from publicans already established in the town, who are worried another rival could be enough to kill off some already on the brink of collapse.
However, Wetherspoon's spokesman Eddie Gershon said it would be up to the public to decide.
"We believe there's enough trade for everyone but it will be down to the customers to decide if they come to us and stay or visit other pubs as well," he said.
The new pub will be named the Ralph Fitz Randal - commemorating the man who helped the Grey Friars settle in Richmond in the 13th Century.
Work on the conversion is expected to begin in July with a completion date pencilled in for November.
