A TIMELY memorial of the new millennium has been handed to the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland by the town's Rotary Club.
An electric clock, which stands 4.5m high on a plinth at the eastern end of the pedestrianised High Street in Redcar, has been a partnership project between the club and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
A total of £5,975 in cash and support was given towards the £13,000 cost of the clock.
A ceremonial key was handed to the Mayor, Councillor Arthur Dobson, by Lyn Hall, whose husband, Ted, who died last month, was a past president of the club and a well-known optometrist.
Councillor George Dunning, lead member for regeneration, said: "We're delighted with all the work and extremely pleased with the clock feature.
"We've had an excellent working partnership with Rotary and I'm sure the end result will be appreciated by thousands of people."
