PEOPLE are to get the chance to give their views on how to improve one of the region's main trunk roads.
The Highways Agency is carrying out a public consultation exercise on the A19/A168 from Dishforth, North Yorkshire, to the Tyne Tunnel.
The results will be used to draw up a ten-year Route Management Strategy, which will set out the agency's actions and expenditure for the route.
Consultation with drivers and others is seen as essential to guide the preparation of the final plan.
Karen Sanderson, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: "The route management strategy for the A19 will begin by looking at what the road does now and then examine what we need it to do in the future.
"Local people often know a great deal about local problems and what the solutions might be, so it is vital that they are consulted."
There is a seminar next month for interested parties, transport groups and public organisations. The public will be invited to take part in the consultation later this year, but can contribute now by filling in a questionnaire.
Written comments and requests for questionnaires should be sent to Rod Chilton, Pell Frischmann, George House, George Street, Wakefield, WF1 1LY.
