DURHAM face an early reunion with Greg Blewett today in the battle of the northern group's two unbeaten teams in the Benson & Hedges Cup.
The Australian scored 133 against them on his Nottinghamshire debut in last week's championship match at Trent Bridge, and has followed up with scores of 59 not out and 84 in the B & H.
With three other new recruits in their side in English-qualified South Africans Greg Smith and Kevin Pieterson, plus former Northants seamer Richard Logan, Nottinghamshire are suddenly looking a much sharper team.
If Durham win both their home games - Leicestershire are tomorrow's visitors - they will be in the quarter-finals before Monday's visit to Headingley.
But coach Martyn Moxon warned: "It's going to be a tough match against Nottinghamshire.
"They are on a bit of a roll. But we are playing well and it should be a good game.
"Hopefully we will get a fine day and not have to worry about the Duckworth/Lewis calculations, because that puts pressure on both sides as we saw at Derby.
"We weren't sure whether we were going to come off, but with the target going up on the board every over it showed how the fall of a wicket changes the whole complexion of the game. It's not easy for either side to judge things in those circumstances."
If there is rain the rules state that the Duckworth/Lewis calculations come into play when the side batting second have been in for ten overs.
From that point a figure goes up on the board after every over to indicate what total the batting side will need to be on at the end of the next over to be ahead under the D/L method.
When light rain started falling on Tuesday at around the ten-over mark Derbyshire were well ahead as the opening pair put on 40.
The loss of two wickets evened things up and during each stand they nosed ahead again, only to slip back when a wicket fell.
In the event there were no interruptions, but had the game been washed out at any time after the ten-over mark it would have been decided by the D/L method.
"We bowled pretty straight," said Moxon. "Nicky Phillips did really well with a damp ball during that period when the rain was falling.
"We also did tremendously well to recover from 36 for three. We are trying to split the innings into three parts.
"We want to be positive in the first 15 overs, but that's determined by the conditions of the pitch and it's up to the openers to assess that."
Durham expect Martin Love and Danny Law to recover from the injuries they suffered on Tuesday and will select from an unchanged squad.

l Former Durham bowler Melvyn Betts won the Gold Award in Warwickshire's four-wicket B & H win at Taunton.
He had in-form England opener Marcus Trescothick caught at slip and clean bowled three of the other top five batsmen to finish with four for 22.
