A GIANT Scalextric circuit is to be erected in Darlington town centre as part of a summer entertainment programme.
The event, on the May 28 Bank Holiday, will involve a mini replica of a Grand Prix circuit being installed in High Row.
Measuring 19ft by 9ft, the circuit will be overseen by trained staff, who will supervise races against individuals or against the clock.
The following week, on Saturday June 3, the person who records the fastest time around the circuit will win a trophy presented by a look-alike Formula One racing driver.
The summer programme continues with a Father's Day celebration in the Cornmill shopping centre on Saturday, June 16, hosted by local football legends Bernie Slaven, Eric Gates and Malcolm MacDonald. One person will have the chance to win £10,000 in cash or a new Peugeot 307.
Darlington By The Sea will be held on Friday, July 27, when the Market Square will become a beach for the day.
TheOrange Darlington Festival will be held over the August Bank Holiday and will include street theatre, buskers, pavement artists, music, dance, food and sculpture.
The programme ends with a week of events, starting September 10, celebrating the Rhythm 'n' Brews Festival.
