Former Olympian athlete Steve Cram told last night of his shock at the sudden death of his younger brother, who is believed to have collapsed and died while out jogging.
Kevin Cram, 39, was found dead by the side of a road in Cardiff by a passing motorist at about 8.15pm on Tuesday.
His identity remained a mystery for more than 36 hours until yesterday.
Police had issued a description to the media and were appealing for help to name him.
BBC sports commentator Steve, from Jarrow, Tyneside, said: "This news has come as a complete shock to his family and friends. Words cannot express how we feel at the moment.
"It's tragic news for us and we ask at this difficult time that we be left alone to come to terms with such a huge loss."
Kevin Cram lived in Pen-y-lan in Cardiff. He was wearing black track suit bottoms, white socks and black and green trainers when he died.
South Wales Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious but an inquiry would be carried out and a file prepared for the coroner.
Officers are still trying to piece together what happened.
