MEMBERS of the public queued up to use the facilities at a new leisure centre.
Building work started on the Raich Carter Sports Centre, in Hendon, Sunderland two years ago.
It opened its doors for the first time last week and some people waited for more than two hours to be among the first customers.
Eleven-year-old Jordan Thompson was first through the door and was greeted by Councillor Eric Holt, chairman of the board of directors, above. He said: "All members of the community can finally enjoy the range of superb facilities after two years of anticipation. I'm sure the Raich Carter Sports Centre will be appreciated for many years to come."
People of all ages tried out the facilities, ranging from a swimming pool to soft play area for youngsters.
