Shildon Running & AC - Tom Carroll, who lives at Billy Row, Crook, gave an excellent display of 200m running at the second fixture of the Tyneside track and field league at the Gateshead International Stadium on Wednesday week.
Carroll won the 200m in emphatic style, clocking 23.1 to gain a grade two standard and the man of the match award together with a £20 sports voucher for his efforts.
The following Sunday at the third fixture of the McDonald's Boys League held at Wentworth Stadium, Hexham, Shildon arrived with only 12 athletes, and matters were made worse when Adam Rogers, competing in the 400m, failed to finish after pulling a hamstring and had to withdraw from the competition.
The remainder of the team gave a superb display and won 17 of the 18 track events entered and gained both track and field man of the match awards.
The club won the competition by one point from Gateshead B.

The club completed the afternoon by winning the Under-15 boys 4x400m with John Burns, Duncan Rogers, Chris Stappard and Matthew Lomax with plenty in hand.
At the third fixture of the North Yorkshire and South Durham track and field league at Shildon on Tuesday. Matthew Lomax continued his excellent form in the U-15 boys 800m to smash Dave Best's long standing time of 2:12.5 with a tremendous win over Nick Zissler (Richmond and Zetland) in a time of 2:05.5.
Quakers Running Club
The junior members of the club began their track and field season with a visit to Carlisle's Sheepmount Stadium and the Carlisle Aspatria hosted Open Graded Medals Meeting where several recorded personal best performances and established club records.

There was a good turn out from the club for the Elswick Road Races. Though held on the same day as the New Marske Bydales 10k, 25 members still turned up at Elswick to represent the club.

There was a good turn out from the club at the Bydales 10k road race with 12 of the club's senior members taking part. Barry Stephenson recorded a personal best and club record of 31:54 to claim his first major road race victory. Ian Scott finished 12th with 35:25. Joe Hutchinson was 25th in a pb of 37:33. Keith Richardson recorded 39:14 for 42nd place while Julia Atkinson ran a pb of 39:42 to claim 46th place and a club record. John Ross was 55th in 40:23. Keven Shevels finished 59th in a pb time of 40:51. Dave McLachlan also recorded a pb of 40:55 for 60th place with Keith Shevels in 62nd position with 41:00. Mike Scott was 110th in 45:55 and Tina Murray, accompanied by husband Pat, recorded a personal best time of 56:26 for 148th position.
Simon Farmer made his annual trip to Claireville Stadium, Middlesbrough, to take part in the Cyril Elliot Memorial meeting, Farmer, competing in the Under-15 boys age group for the first time, set a personal best in the high jump clearing 1.55m to claim second place. After running in the Elswick event the previous day, Farmer found tired legs hampered his performances in the track events. Competing in the 400m he crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 68.0s and went on to finish seventh in the 800m with a time of 2.39.
The Croft Circuit relays produced some excellent results for Aycliffe with the junior teams doing especially well. The Under-13 girls' teams finished ninth, tenth and 11th places overall, emphasising the club's great strength in depth.

The Under-13 boys finished fifth with Jack Othwaite the top performer in 6:46sec and Nicholas Thong not far behind in 7:52sec. All the juniors were competing against children who were one or two years older.
The senior men were one of only two clubs who managed to turn out three teams, finishing ninth, 14th and 15th overall respectively.

The Billingham 5k road race saw three personal bests, Sue Milburn in magnificent form as first woman in a personal best time of 19:43sec. Michael O'Sullivan continued his recent improvement and finished in an identical time, just failing to beat her on the line. Another best performance came through Jed Hodgson with 23:00, closely followed by Pat Edwards with 23:33.

Durham City Harriers
Harriers again travelled south for the second North of England men's track and field league meeting which was held in Wakefield.
Harriers hoped to build on their victory in the first meeting at Middlesbrough.
But despite some valiant efforts it was not to be their day and they were beaten into second place by Wakefield.
However, after two meetings they are on equal points with Wakefield and remain in a strong position.

Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers
THE club hosted a very successful 10 mile road race and three-mile fun run on Sunday. Over 500 took part in the 10-mile race which started and finished at Thirsk race course on a sunny though windy afternoon. Ian Fisher of Otley AC was the first home in a time of 50.55, almost two minutes ahead of second placed Kevin McCluskey of Salford. The first Thirsk and Sowerby runner home was Peter Wragg in 12th place in a time of 56.25. Richard Hall was 18th and Walter Busuttil 23rd, allowing the men's team to come third in the team competition behind Otley and Knavesmire.
First Thirsk and Sowerby lady home was again Angela Hayward in 151st position in a time of 68.17 and Maureen Gibbs was 320th place - the second T and S lady. The women finished fourth in the team competition. Altogether 28 members took part, and those who were unable to because of injury helped with marshalling.
In the fun run the three Mechie children represented the Harriers. Neil was in 12th place, Katie 15th and Rebecca 48th. The club was proud to have Tanni Gray Thompson and her husband taking part in the wheel chair event - a regular fixture for them.
