FRIENDSHIPS forged in a thriving 1950s community are to be revived with a reunion.
John Beaston, 65, grew up in South Church, near Bishop Auckland, and has missed the close community spirit that prevailed in the village ever since he moved away.
Children who formed firm friendships about 50 years ago lost touch when many of the houses were pulled down in the 1960s and families moved out.
But they have not forgotten their roots and a reunion for people born in the village between the 1920s and 1960 is planned for the end of this year.
The first South Church reunion was held two years ago and organisers were inundated with requests for another.
Mr Beaston, who now lives in Garthlands, Heighington, said: "We even had people from Ireland and Australia come over for the first reunion and they asked us to stage another.
"We had one before the floods hit South Church, which people are still depressed about, so another reunion might lift their spirits.
"I was born in South Church. It was great, there was a lot of good folk there.
"I live in Heighington, but I'm still in love with the village. I wish I'd never moved away."
The event will be held on December 8 in the Territorial Army building, St Andrews Road, Bishop Auckland.
