PLANS are being explored for the development of a cycle network connecting Middlesbrough and Whitby.
The route will form part of the National Cycle Network and is being developed by Sustrans - a national charity that works on practical projects to encourage people to walk and cycle more.
In 1995, the charity was awarded £43.5m by the Millennium Commission towards its flagship project - the National Cycle Network.
For years, a cycle route between Middlesbrough and Whitby has been identified but the original plan provided little benefit to people living in the boundaries of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
Funding for the project would come from a variety of sources.
