A GROUP of over-50s discovered that the classroom is not necessarily the best place to learn during Adult Learners' Week.
Residents from the west end of Newcastle invited to take part in a tour of the city's quayside to learn about its history and explore the sites.
The event was organised by Search, a community project for over-55s living in Benwell.
The tour, supported by the Reviving the Heart of the West End training programme, took in the ancient part of the city where the group enjoyed a talk at the Literary and Philosophical Society, visited the castle keep and walked the length of the quayside.
Organiser Eileen Cain said: "The event was a huge success with many of our members.
"It certainly proved a point that you do not have to go into a classroom to acquire knowledge and learn skills."
