KOREAN music could be heard at Egglescliffe school this week, when an international educational project was launched by the Anglo-Korean Forum.
Musician Inok Paek performed at the launch, which was attended by business, educational, political and diplomatic guests. She also worked with students who recently established links with a secondary school in Inchon, a town of similar size to Stockton, located to the south of Seoul.
Guests at Wednesday's launch included Baroness Perry, who sits in the House of Lords and is a member of the forum, and Prof Keith Pratt, of Durham university. Members of the local Korean community and Korean embassy were also invited.
Head teacher Mrs Angela Darnell explained that the forum existed to promote cultural, trading and educational links between the two countries.
"We were pleased to work with it on this initiative as it is an exciting opportunity to widen the horizons of our children.
"Pupils have established e-mail links with their Korean counterparts and this afternoon they gave a short presentations on their work."
Possible future developments could include video-conferencing events and visits between the two schools.
As Korea is also the venue for next year's football World Cup, interest could be considerable.
