VILLAGE youngsters are to get a safe place to play, thanks to muck being turned into brass.
A fund set up under the landfill tax credit scheme has provided £37,000 to help create a play area at Rainton, near Thirsk.
The village is near the Great North Road and the A168, and for years children have had nowhere safe to play.
Now the Hanson Environment Fund, managed by the Royal Society for Nature Conservation, has given cash to provide outdoor play equipment, a football pitch and a cycle track.
The facilities will be at the recreation field, bought after 18 months of fundraising and donations from various organisations.
A Hanson fund spokesman said: "The recreation field will be an important and well-used community resource, and the play area is especially important to local families.
"The safety and enjoyment of children is essential to communities such as Rainton, and Hanson is keen to support this."
The chairman of the village recreation association, David Cornmell, said: "Such facilities are long overdue and will be a positive step towards improving road safety in the village."
