SEA-LOVING young people are needed to complete the crew of a historic vessel for prestigious races.
The James Cook, the North-East's sail training vessel, requires extra recruits for the Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Races, in July and August.
Its first race is from Antwerp, Belgium, to Alesund, on the west coast of Norway, from where it will cruise in company with other competitors through the fjords to the Norwegian city of Bergen.
The second race is from Bergen to Esbjerg, in Denmark, where the crews will take part in the final festivities, including the presentation of the Cutty Sark Trophy to the most successful crew at promoting international relations.
James Cook will then return to Dundee, Scotland, in mid-August for a maritime festival to celebrate the centenary of Captain Scott's ship, Discovery.
Places are available on the 54-ton ketch for people aged 16 to 24. Activities on board will include sail handling, steering, keeping a lookout and cooking meals, all supervised by experts. No experience is needed. While a voyage fee is required, many past crews in the annual event have benefited from grants or sponsorship.
