FEARS over flooding have been raised about a site where 24 homes are being planned near a city centre.
Ripon City Council is not objecting to development of the Bryant Homes properties, at the former Ripon Land Rover site, in Borrage Lane, on the main southern route into Ripon from Harrogate.
The development would involve demolition of existing buildings, creation of ten three-storey homes fronting Borrage Lane, and two blocks of six and four three-storey homes.
There would also be four other three-storey homes fronting Borrage Lane and Borrage Bridge.
Ripon City Council, which would prefer to keep the land for industrial use, says the area is prone to flooding. It wants to know what measures are being taken to avoid damage to properties.
Ripon Civic Society supports the application, which will be considered by the area planning committee of Harrogate Borough Council, at Ripon, tomorrow.
But Harrogate Civic Society says while housing might be suitable, it has some concerns about the number of homes being completed across the district.
The Environment Agency has tabled holding objections on concerns over flooding but hopes the matter can be resolved.
Council planning officer Dennis Harling is recommending approval as part of a major opportunity to enhance an important approach to Ripon
