AN east Durham village is planning a gala open day to help bring its community together.
The Thornley steering group has organised the event, which will be held on Saturday, between 10am and 2pm.
The event, in Youll House, will include free face-painting for children, displays by Thornley Tapestry Group, Groundwork East Durham, Thornley Past and Present and proposals for a resource centre and play area at Gorehill.
There will also be a cake stall, raffle, refreshments and a tombola. Everyone is welcome, and further ideas for the village would be appreciated.
Also planning an open day is the community of South Hetton, where residents are being invited to give their village a voice.
The open day, next Tuesday, will be held in South Hetton Community Centre, from 9am to 11am, and 6pm to 8pm.
Representatives from the District of Easington, the police, health promotion, East Durham and Houghall Community College, Directions - experts on health, the family and disability - will be available to provide advice.
The day is being organised by the re-established South Hetton Community Partnership.
