A COURT told a 26-year-old man yesterday that he should give up dabbling in drugs because he was too old.
Michael Harling, who pleaded guilty to two charges of heroin possession and two of failing to answer his bail, was given a 12-month community rehabilitation order by Harrogate magistrates.
Chairman Cecily Horton told Harling, of Kirkgate, Ripon, who was also ordered to pay £120 costs that he was no stranger to the court.
"We would like you to be a stranger. At 26 you are too old for this sort of thing," she said.
Harling's solicitor David Dedman told the court he had taken steps of his own to cure his heroin habit.
Nick Ralph, prosecuting, said after police had raided Harling's flat and found traces of heroin they had bailed him to return to Ripon police station.
When he did not turn up he was re-arrested and two wraps of heroin were found on him.
