HUNDREDS of youngsters are enjoying a taste of life in the great outdoors all this week.
Year six children from every junior and primary school in the Easington and Seaham areas are taking part in the initiative.
Each day, about 80 children are taking part in a range of outdoor activities - inluding hill walking, climbing, abseiling, canoeing and camping - at Moor House Scout Centre, near Durham.
The event - organised by Durham LEA, Education Action Zone and World Challenge Expeditions - is designed to develop a range of skills, including orienteering, problem solving, social and team building skills.
Alan Duff, of Durham County Council's PE and sports development unit, said: "For many children, this will be their first experience of an overnight camp and working in the outdoors.
"Everyone involved is hoping it will have a lasting and favourable impression on the children.
