HOTELS and tourism chiefs have teamed up with shops and museum bosses to promote a North-East town as a destination for short breaks.
The Short Breaks, Long Memories promotion sees Darlington Borough Council working with the other parties to offer discounts for two-night breaks, and special offers to encourage visitors to make the most of their stay.
The promotion will run from Friday until the end of October. A leaflet will be sent to about 8,500 addresses, taken from the council's tourism database and hotels' contact lists.
Nigel Merryweather, of the New Grange Hotel, said: "It is encouraging to see the council working with local trade."
The other hotels involved are Blackwell Grange, Croft Spa, Walworth Castle, the Devonport, the St George and the White Horse.
Traders offering discounts include Rymans, Bramwells the Jewellers, Joseph M, Wades Coffee House and the Spice Garden Indian Restaurant.
The Darlington Railway Centre and Museum is also offering discounts
