RECYCLING company Foreman Waste Management is piloting a doorstep collection scheme in parts of the Wear Valley district next week.
The company aims to collect 2.2kg of newspaper and magazines every fortnight from each household taking part.
That will be added to 300 tonnes of paper and cardboard already collected by Foremans and taken to the Shotton Paper Company, in North Wales, for recycling into newsprint.
Leaflets have been sent out to people in the areas where the collection is to be made. These are Cockton Hill, in Bishop Auckland, on Thursday June 21, West Auckland on June 22, Willington on June 28 and Crook on June 29.
Managing director John Foreman said: "Wear Valley District Council and Foreman Recycling Ltd are determined to make this partnership approach to recycling work effectively for the betterment of the community."
The company opened In November 1999 and aims to divert waste from landfill sites by recycling. It can be contacted on the Merrington Lane Industrial Estate, Spennymoor, on 0191-301 3464.
