A COMMUNITY centre will be granted £45,000 to establish a new community training scheme - if it can find match funding from elsewhere.
Leading members of the Leadgate Community Tea Room, in Leadgate, near Consett, have their fingers crossed that other bids will be favourable so they can establish the project.
The £45,000 has been promised by the European Union Social Fund as long as other bids come to fruition in the coming weeks.
The project would involve setting up a number of training and education programmes to help people get back into work. A small number of full-time jobs would also be created to run the project.
Meanwhile, the centre held an open day recently at which a cheque of £1,000 from the Abbey National Chester-le-Street branch was accepted.
A number of free courses are on offer. Registration must take place by July 2. Call (01207) 503440 for details.
