HUNDREDS of jobs are to go at the Glaxo pharmaecuticals plant in Barnard Castle.
GlaxoSmithKline is planning to cut more than 1,000 jobs in the UK after a global review of its manufacturing business.
Unions were told that the site at Speke in Liverpool will close over the next three years, with the potential loss of 500 jobs, while 400 jobs will be axed at the Barnard Castle plant in County Durham.
The company's factory at Montrose in Scotland, which employs 720 workers, is to be sold and a site at Plymouth will close over the next two years with the loss of 170 jobs.
