A CLUTCH of organisations have won a Lottery windfall.

Community groups, projects and schemes in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton and east Cleveland are sharing £67,889 from the National Lottery Awards for All programme.

One of the recipients is Hall Garth School Junior Youth Theatre, Middlesbrough, which receives £4,996 towards the cost of hiring professionals and general production and publicity costs for mounting a musical - the culmination of year-long arts and drama workshops.

Stockton Blind People's Voice has received a grant of £4,245 to buy a Braille printer and leaflets, a website and to help with training costs to further the work of the group which tackles education, employment and transport issues for the blind and partially sighted.

An award of £5,000 will help the Hartlepool Asian Association establish the first community centre for use by Asian people in Hartlepool, allowing it to refurbish the building earmarked for the project and fund the start up costs for its first year.

A £2,009 contribution to the Teesside Asthma Group will help it set up a mobile asthma information library.

Pat Lowes, senior award officer for Awards for All in the North-East, said: "The amounts these groups receive is small compared to the large grants given out, but the difference they can make to the activities and achievements for these groups is enormous."
