PUBLIC tours of a town hall could become a regular feature.
About 120 people responded to an open door invitation to tour Middlesbrough Council's corridors of power - its council chamber and civic suite.
The tours, which left at 20-minute intervals, were in response to criticism of £264,434 being lavished on the mayor's parlour.
The Mayor, Councillor Pat Walker, said: "It's been a great day for the town hall and for the people who visited it. I think everybody thoroughly enjoyed the tours.
"We certainly hope to be able to open up the town hall on a regular basis.''
The tours were led by assistant curator Ian Stubbs, an authority on the history of the town hall, who dressed for the part - complete in black coat and tails, and white gloves.
