TWENTY Guides from 1st Yarm enjoyed a karting challenge to mark an awards achievement.
This event was held to celebrate the achievement of Beth Flanagan, 14, Catherine Walker, Helen Crabtree and Michelle Parker, all 15, who are the last guides in Tees West Division to gain the Baden-Powell Trefoil award, before it changes name. The award is the highest achievement for girls under 16.
The girls worked on the award scheme for more than a year and had to complete tasks covering the history of guiding, service in the community, personal development, world guiding and skills, as well as taking part in a guide camp or holiday.
Division commissioner Ann James presented the awards and spoke of the commitment of the girls to achieve something worthwhile at a time when they can be under pressure from schoolwork and peer groups.
In Yarm district, it is hoped another Rainbow unit for five to seven year olds will be opened. Brownie leaders are needed to ensure that all six Brownie packs continue to thrive, and particularly welcome leaders to work with Guides and the senior section.
If you would like to put something back into the community contact Ann James, the Division commissioner on (01642) 787971, or Karen Crabtree on (01642) 786867.
