A VILLAGE is celebrating a double success after taking on the might of the amateur football world in a competition.
Both the Under-13 and the Under-12 New Marske junior football teams lifted the cup in two North of England tournaments featuring teams from as far afield as Liverpool and Grimsby.
The Under-12s success came first, inspiring the Under-13s to a 2-1 victory against Huddersfield in the final of their competition.
A total of 24 teams entered the second competition, held in Blackpool.
The New Marske team played nine games over two days to win the cup.
The New Marske teams, coached by Steve Thornton and Steve Watson, won the plate cup for their age groups.
Spokeswoman Vanessa Patterson said: "It is quite an achievement for a small village club to have two winning teams in such a big competition."
The teams are continuing to train in the hope that they will hold on to their trophies next year.
