MOTOR enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice roving around an open-air heritage museum this weekend.

A cavalcade of Rovers takes pride of place at Beamish Museum site, near Stanley, County Durham.

Backed by The Northern Echo and Land Rover dealer Dutton Forshaw, the Beamish All Rover Rally features more than 200 models of all ages and sizes, reflecting the popular car's development down the decades.

Visitors to Beamish tomorrow, and on Sunday - Father's Day - will see some early Rovers, from the 1930s and 1940s.

Members of four North-East and Cumbria Land Rover and Rover car clubs hope it will encourage membership and increase enthusiasm in their favourite vehicle.

More modern examples of the four-wheel king, the Land Rover Discovery and Freelander, can also be viewed, with a chance for some lucky drivers to try them out on a specially- created off-road course.

The most recent version, the Freelander, has only been seen on the road for the past 18 months, and comes in three models, the 1.8, two-litre or V6.

The event is aimed at helping children and grown-ups to discover their spirit of adventure, through a variety of free fun activities and challenges. There will also be a fun fair and several trade stands to entertain visitors of all ages.

Museum visitors can view nearly 100 vintage and classic vehicles completing the 91-mile Beamish Reliability Run at the site during Sunday afternoon.

As an added bonus, Echo readers have the chance to win a weekend's ownership of a Land Rover Freelander, including fuel and insurance costs.

Contestants should register their answer to the following question, at the Dutton Forshaw Land Rover trade stand, at Beamish:

The Land Rover Freelander comes in which three engine sizes?
