A WOMAN who works tirelessly to help her community has had a play area named after her.
Work has started on the playground on the Woodhouse Close Recreation Ground, Bishop Auckland, which is the first project created with the help of Sure Start Wear Valley, a Government initiative to improve the welfare of pre-school children in deprived areas.
After suggestions by residents, the play area has been named Jane Armstrong Park.
Ms Armstrong is a community worker, teacher and youth worker who has been awarded an MBE for her work on the estate.
Work on landscaping the recreation ground will start later this year and residents are invited to a launch of the play area on July 27.
