A COCAINE user was jailed for four years yesterday after police found more than £2,000 of the drug in his home.
At Teesside Crown Court yesterday, Rashid Adamson, 31, of Sadberge Hall Farm, Darlington, admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply, and a charge of possessing cannabis resin.
Ayshea Munsi, prosecuting, told the court officers had searched Adamson's then Middlesbrough home in August 1999 and found several bags of the powder in various places in the house.
She said the total weight of the cocaine found was 41.47gms, with a street value of £2,500, as well as quantities of cash and drug paraphernalia such as scales.
Miss Munsi said Adamson admitted he had a seven gramme-a-day cocaine habit and bought his drugs in bulk.
Paul Cleasby, for Adamson, said the amount of cocaine found in his client's home would only last a heavy user for about three weeks.
He said Adamson had suffered depression before he committed the offences, but was taking steps to recover.
Mr Cleasby said Adamson only ever sold cocaine to his friends to finance his addiction, but was not a dealer who went into clubs or stood on street corners, he said.
Judge David Bryant sentenced Adamson to four years in prison for the cocaine charge and seven days concurrent for the cannabis charge and ordered the drugs to be destroyed.
