TWO new bins are being used in the battle against fly-tippers in Stockton.
Council workers have put two extra 110-litre bins in Hartington Road in a bid to stop people simply dumping rubbish in derelict areas or back streets.
Councillor Geoff Field, the council's cabinet member for the environment, said: "Residents should use their wheelie bins as usual, but with these new containers in place, if people's wheelie bins get full, there is somewhere for them to put their rubbish.
"We know that some people dump rubbish in the area and let down those residents who care for the area. We are asking those people not to put their waste on to the streets.
"There is no excuse for such anti-social behaviour, especially now these new containers provide an extra facility where residents can take excess refuse."
The new containers are strictly for use by residents and must not be used to dump commercial waste.
The situation in the Hartington Road area will be monitored during the coming weeks and anyone seen still dumping their waste could face prosecution.
In another move to stop people dumping household items, anyone who has bulky or large items to dispose of can now have it removed free of charge by calling (01642) 391959.
