A GROUP of Teesside army cadets has taken a step back in time to explore its regiment's history.
Thirty cadets from the Redcar Detachment of Cleveland Army Cadet Force's C Company visited the Green Howards Museum, in Richmond, for their introduction to the past.
After a brief talk about the museum, they were sent to investigate the history of the Green Howards from 1688 to the present day through a specially-devised quiz.
They undertook the quiz in pairs, with several gaining high scores, and two being awarded special certificates.
During the visit, which formed part of a programme involving every Green Howards cadet in Teesside and North Yorkshire, the Redcar group learned about the regiment's role in the American War of Independence, in India and Ceylon, during the Crimean and Boer Wars and in both world wars.
It was brought up to date with information on present day operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Kosovo.
It was shown the regiment's 18 Victoria Crosses, and told how they were won.
