A PARISH church hit the high notes in a performance put on at the weekend to pay for their piano.
The Pianothon staged at St Laurence's Church in Pittington, near Durham City, will cover the costs of a piano bought from Durham University's Hatfield College.
Congregation members teamed up with Hatfield College music students to complete the seven-hour event on Saturday.
Congregation member Christophe Percival said: "When we got round to organising the event we thought it would be fitting to invite students from the college to join in.
"We agreed to share the proceeds between a charity of their choice and our church piano fund."
Fourteen pianists played for half-hour slots each and church organisers are confident they have exceeded their £500 target.
Half of the proceeds will go to St Cuthbert's Hospice, Durham.
