A nurse was today jailed for life for murdering an 84-year-old woman she was supposed to be caring for.
Alison Firth, 36, of Kingston Park, Newcastle, drugged care home resident Alice Grant with a strong sedative because she was too lazy to look after her.
The jury at Newcastle Crown Court took less than two hours to return a guilty verdict.
Firth admitted giving the sedative heminevrin to Mrs Grant at Aidan House, Gateshead, but couldn't remember if she intended to kill the pensioner or ease her suffering.
Judge Mr Justice Bell told Firth she murdered Mrs Grant "largely because you didn't want to be put to the trouble of caring for her in the future".
