NEVER mind Liverpool FC winning the treble last season - this team was, literally, twice as good.
For the Derwentside District Under 11s won no fewer than six trophies and what is more they did it in their first ever season.
So it was no wonder that the new chairman of the local council, Councillor Les Vaux, invited the young stars and their parents for an official presentation ceremony at Consett Civic Hall.
Team coach David Collingwood, who is also headmaster of Burnhope Primary School, explained that this was the first year that Consett and Stanley football teams had been allowed to merge to form a united team.
The boys won the Harrison League, which takes teams from as far as Sunderland and east Cleveland, the Peter Dunn Trophy, the Derwent and Medomsley Cup, the Durham County Five-a-Side competition, the Durham County Seven-a-Side League and the Ed Harvey Seven-a-Side Cup.
"I doubt their achievement will ever be repeated," said Mr Collingwood. "They must have played 25 or 30 games and they didn't lose a single game and only drew once.
"What's more they're a great set of lads and really seemed to enjoy themselves."
