JOB-HUNTERS have less than a week to join a scheme to help unemployed people into work.
The Intermediate Labour Market project has places for jobless people in Hartlepool wanting a hand to find work.
Under the scheme, Hartlepool Borough Council, takes on unemployed people for between six months and a year, giving them the chance to earn a wage, get into a work routine and gain experience.
It is hoped many will move on to regular employment in the area.
The initiative is operated by the council in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education's New Opportunities programme, the Owton Rossmere and North Hartlepool Single Regeneration Budget Partnerships, the Employment Service and various Hartlepool businesses.
Everyone who takes part is trained in health and safety, first aid and information technology.
The scheme was meant to last one year, but has proved so successful it is being extended and there are places available for people aged over 18.
Sue Williams, project supervisor, said: "The project could be just the help you need to get back on to the jobs ladder, it can help you gain the practical experience, which employers are looking for."
