A COLLEGE is introducing a range of higher education courses to increase the number of North-East students attending university.
East Durham and Houghall Community College is recruiting for foundation degree programmes, which allow students to attend their local college before completing their courses at nearby universities.
The college is working with the University of Sunderland to offer degree courses in performing arts, child care, information technology and sport and exercise development.
College principal Ian Prescott said: "We are introducing these new higher education courses in recognition of the fact that there are some exceptionally talented people in east Durham who can and will go all the way. The academic potential of this area is a sleeping giant."
