A PUB landlord will be kindling a log fire next week to mark Midsummer's Day.
Sam Kidd, landlord of the Old Farmhouse, in Yarm Road, Darlington, is encouraging customers to join the fun by appealing for them to reveal Midsummer traditions of their own.
He said: "I make a point of trying to keep old traditions alive. I've done a little research and found that people used to light bonfires on this day to warm the Earth and welcome summer.
"So far, we've been frozen, soaked and blown about and, frankly, summer is something we really should celebrate."
Anyone who brings proof of a genuine Midsummer tradition will receive a free glass of orange juice.
