A DARLINGTON firm has scooped first prize in the small business category of the North-East Spirit of Innovation awards.
Peratech, of Morton Park, beat scores of other entries to win the latest in a string of awards for developing a revolutionary, touch-sensitive polymer which replaces electrical switches.
Formed in 1998 by Mr David Lussie, Peratech recently got its first world patent, and others are expected to follow soon.
After designing touch-sensitive key pads built into jackets and other textiles under the name Softswitch, the company recently moved on to switch-free power tools and children's toys.
Mr Lussie told the D&S Times: "I was amazed and astounded that we won this award.
"Unfortunately, we can't talk about a lot of the things we do because the people we work for do not want it publicised, but things are going very well with the business and we have some very exciting projects in the offing."
