A 12-year-old girl was left shocked but unhurt after being assaulted by a man on her way home last weekend.
The incident happened at around 9.40pm last Sunday as the girl was making her way across Roseberry Square field in Redcar.
The man followed the girl for a short distance, then spoke to her before grabbing her clothing, pushing her to the ground and taking some small change that she dropped as she fell.
The man then ran off towards the Micklow Close area, leaving the girl to run the rest of the way home.
The man is described as white, possibly in his 20s, with brown hair. He was wearing light blue jeans and a Nike jacket.
He may have been hanging around Roseberry Square shops prior to the incident.
DC Nick Owen, of Redcar CID, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a young girl. We are naturally concerned regarding the circumstances and detectives are following all possible lines of inquiry."
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Redcar CID on (01642) 302626.
