Doreen Johnson Memorial - Crook Coach and Horses A commanded the Finals Night played at the Crook Spitfire Club when they never dropped a leg throughout the semi-finals and final.
In the semi-finals both winners came through with a clean sheet. The Coach and Horse A beat Crook Bar 56 3-0, while Crook Spitfire A had a similar result against their C team.
In the Final the Coach took the team game fairly easily but the first doubles between Gail Abbott and Margaret Stewart of the Coach and Betty Chapman and Janice Warriner of the Spitfire was close throughout until Gail hit double tops, whilst the Spitfire still needed 56.
The second doubles was also a close run thing with Marion Hesp and Claire Stewart of the Coach always just a few ahead of Gillian Scott and Jackie Clark. Just when it seemed that the point could go either way, Marion Hesp popped up with a 104 check-out to take the game and the match.
Leading individual scorers: Marion Hesp 140, 134, 100 and a 104 finish, Gail Abbott 140 and five 100s, Gillian Scott 132 and a 100, Betty Chapman 140, 135 and 100.
Ken Johnson, the widower of Doreen, presented the trophies to the Coach and Horses team of Gail Abbott, Marion Hesp, Margaret Stewart and Claire Stewart. The fifth member of their team was Eileen Graham, but she was not available for the Final because she was on holiday. The Spitfire team to receive the runners-up trophies were Betty Chapman, Janice Warriner, Gillian Scott and Jackie Clark.
