A COMMERCIAL building behind Stokesley High Street can now be used for a variety of businesses, following some adjustments to a planning application.
Hambleton council development control committee has imposed conditions on use of the building behind the Stokesley delicatessen
Some residents of Brewery Terrace have expressed concern that there could be noise, traffic or fumes, if the building was used for light industrial work.
However, planning officer Mrs Diane Baines stressed at the development committee meeting that the term "light industrial" generally referred to office, retail, financial and professional activities - not factory work.
"Descriptions can be misleading but there should not be any fumes, smells or noises. It is an office," she said.
Conditions were imposed which restrict deliveries and access to the building from High Street. A drive from North Road was not to be used for vehicles. The building was to remain an ancillary structure to the main building and shop.
Councillors approved the amended plan.
