COUNCIL chiefs take to the road this summer in an attempt to compensate for the impact foot-and-mouth disease has had on North Yorkshire.
Restrictions imposed to limit the risks of spreading the epidemic have led to the cancellation of dozens of agricultural shows this year, making it more difficult for Richmondshire District Council to communicate with people who live in the more remote rural communities.
"We would normally go to several local shows to give people a chance to find out more about our work," said unit manager, Geoff Thompson.
"However, the foot-and-mouth outbreak has made this impossible - but we did not want to miss out on a chance to meet local residents, so this four-venue road-show seemed the best alternative.''
Staff will be at the Upper Wensleydale Community Office, in Hawes, on Tuesday; at Richmond Town Hall, on Thursday, July 5; at Thornborough Hall, in Leyburn, on Friday, July 6; and at the Reeth Memorial Hall, on Friday, July 13. Each advice and information session will be open between 1pm and 5pm.
