AN employee at a seafront pub/hotel has been accused of pilfering £150,000 from the business.
Kara Joy Kennedy was alleged to have taken the money over a seven-year period while working at the Pulman Lodge Hotel, at Seaburn, Sunderland, where she reached the position of assistant manager. She was also accused of stealing gift vouchers from the wedding cards of guests at the hotel.
Ms Kennedy, 29, of Harperley Drive, Tunstall Road, Sunderland, was charged with four counts of theft.
The £150,000 theft allegation dates from April 1993 to last June, although the three counts relating to stolen gift vouchers are all dated 1999 and last year.
She appeared before Durham Crown Court yesterday for a brief hearing, which was adjourned.
Ms Kennedy was bailed to return for a further hearing in four weeks, when she will give pleas to the charges.
