A COUPLE whose son was killed on a notorious road have criticised delays in the building of a flyover.
Colin and Chris Sanders's son, Jamie, 16, from Northallerton, died in January when he was in a collision with a car at Bilbrough Top junction, on the A64.
They have campaigned for a flyover to be built to help cut the road's poor accident record.
But the Highways Agency says objections to its proposed flyover scheme will force a public inquiry, meaning that the completion of the work will be put back, to 2004.
Mr Sanders said: "The flyover needs to happen as soon as possible, before someone else is killed and someone else has to go through what we have been through."
A Highways Agency spokesman said: "If there are objections which cannot be resolved, as there are in this case, a public inquiry has to be held to allow all objections to be heard and considered.
