HUNDREDS of youngsters took to the beach yesterday to take part in a volleyball competition.
The second annual Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament took place on Redcar beach, east Cleveland, with more than 200 youngsters taking part.
It was organised by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's sports development team in conjunction with the Tees Valley Volleyball Association.
The action took place between Leo's pub and the Regent cinema with 14 courts marked out on the sands for a series of age group competitions - boys and girls under-12, under-13, under-14 and under-16, and mixed teams for under-11 and under-16.
The association's junior coordinator, Martin Wain, said: "It was a fantastic sight to see all those youngsters. It really was a marvellous event.
