JAZZ bands and floats added to the carnival atmosphere in the streets of Willington at the weekend.
But the procession was marred by not being allowed along the main street, said organiser Christina Jackson.
Mrs Jackson, a member of the Willington Community Partnership which helped to organise Saturday's event, said despite restrictions the day was a success.
She said: "It was nice to see so many people there, but I feel we would have had more support if we had been able to go down the main street.''
Mrs Jackson said traffic control problems had resulted in the parade being barred from the main street.
Instead, it travelled from Willington Workingmen's Club through the Hall Lane Estate to the town's football ground.
Stacey Lee, 17, enjoyed being queen for the day, joined by attendant Amy Pearson and Prince and Princess, Andrew Hodgson and Katie Hawkins.
Mrs Jackson said because the event had been successful, a carnival committee would be formed to organise next year's event and the fight would continue for permission to parade along the main street.
