A ROADSHOW designed to inform people about the work of Richmondshire District Council starts its tour of the area tomorrow.

The event, at Upper Wensleydale community office, in Hawes, will see staff answering questions and handing out leaflets, from 1pm to 5pm.

The roadshow is focusing on key services, such as sports development, summer activities for children, business funding and tourism.

The move was made by the authority after the foot-and-mouth crisis wiped out the area's agricultural shows.

Economic, cultural and leisure unit manager Geoff Thompson said yesterday: "We would normally go along to several local shows to give people a chance to find out more about our work.

"We did not want to miss out on the chance to meet local residents, so this four-venue roadshow seemed the best alternative."

Other venues are Richmond town hall on July 5, Thornborough Hall, Leyburn, on July 6, and Reeth memorial hall on July 13
