A SCHOOL has expressed anger at being left out of consultations on transport plans that may affect it.

Neither the governors nor the headteacher of Nunthorpe School, Middlesbrough, have been asked their views on the East Middlesbrough Transport Corridor, being discussed by Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough borough councils.

Headteacher John Rowling said he does not even know what the options are.

He said the situation has been made worse because those complaining about lack of consultation were wrongly told that the school refused to host a public display, when it had not been asked.

"We are pretty angry that we have been portrayed as uncooperative, and we would have thought we would have been consulted because we would be directly affected," he said.

The proposals are: introducing alternatives to car travel via existing routes; constructing a single carriageway between Swan's Corner and Longlands Road; constructing a road from Swan's Corner to Stainton Way, with a route for buses and vehicles with more than one occupant, to Longlands Road.

Ward councillors, claim a change is unnecessary and the latter two would take up green space.

Derek Gittins, Redcar and Cleveland's integrated transport manager, said of the confusion over the school, that there had been a breakdown in communications between the consultants and the council.

Anyone with questions on the plans can write to the director of development, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Cargo Fleet Offices, Middlesbrough Road, PO Box Southbank 20, TS6 6EL.
