Striker John Williams last night rejoined Swansea City after snubbing a six month contract from Darlington manager Gary Bennett.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year deal to join the Vetch Field club to begin what will be his third spell at the Swans.

"I enjoyed my short time at Darlington and got some vital goals, but I didn't want to stay there,'' he said.

"No disrespect to some of the clubs I've been at, but they were not ambitious. The management team here have convinced me how desperate they are to get back into the second, and move on from there.

"Over the last couple of seasons, I've been used mainly as a winger, but Mr Hollins has confirmed that he wants to use my pace up front, which is where I prefer to play.''

After the departures of Paul Beavers, Jesper Hjorth, Gary Williamson and the loss through injury of Glenn Naylor, Quakers are now seriously short of firepower.

Bennett, however, has denied that he is on the verge of signing potential Williams replacement, Barry Conlon. York striker Conlon has been linked with a move to Feethams and speculation is rising that his club may might loan the 22-year-old to Quakers, or make him available for transfer.

However, Bennett, who also dismissed a link with Carlisle midfielder Steve Soley, doesn't appear to be close to signing Conlon.
